About Me

My photo
here I am in a little cottage that evokes the energies of my ancestral lands - a cottage on the moors of Cornwall, or on the cliff tops of Ireland or Scotland. It has a hearth. I am a hedge witch {of sorts}. I wear upcycled clothes, patchouli oil and Redback boots. I am a gypsy; an eccentric and a mystic [I often live with a foot in two worlds]. I serve my guests, tea from an old silver teapot. I love Vervain, yarrow, chamomile & mint. Star watcher and Moon gazer. story cloth weaver. keeper of family dreams and wishes. good friend and creator of life. herbal tea drinker and potion maker.

an introduction to my neighbourhood

I woke this morning to currawongs singing in the old pines, across the road. their song takes me back.. to somewhere very familiar.. not sure where..

today I began the garden. weeding out old spent lavenders and a multitude of weeds, along the front fence. In their place, I planted some ballerina apples - apple trees that grow upwards, instead of out. the garden has such a lovely energy about it.

"Avalon" is situated in the heart of Katoomba..two blocks from Echo Point.. a world heritage area. in what is known as an Heritage Precinct.
which means that any modifications that we do must be within keeping of the buildings... we are surrounded by lovely old homes.. some grand old dames.

but others, like ours, simple cottages of various styles.. most have been or are in the process of being 'fixed up'

[Joe and I are trying to decide what colour to paint outside.. I am leaning towards a light purple with turquoise & cream trims.. but there is also a gorgeous dark salmon colour that I like.. with this I would put dark grey and cream.. and then there is the decision of what colour doors.]

we can go walking....

along beautiful paths..

and past gorgeous gardens.. inspiring..

my kind of people.

just up the road is a home called St. Austell... some of my cornish ancestors came from a village called St. Austell... another coincedence perhaps? or just the Universe telling me I am in exactly the right place?

we live on a road that leads to a scenic lookout, and all day, tourists wander past.. some nodding hello, others just looking, some stopping for a chat. Katoomba is on the Rainbow Serpent Line - connecting me, via the Earth Chakras to Glastonbury, Bodmin Moor & Dartmoor... funny that.. because those places are places of my ancestors.

When I was a little girl and my family were living in Oz, we lived in a little town called Seven Hills, and would look out at the Blue Mountains. We would go to Katoomba and Echo Point at the weekends for family days out. Robyn, I canask my mum to write down her memories of the place, you might find it interesting? I was small so my memories are less clear but I remember I was always the adventurous one, my 2 sisters tended to stay with mum while Dad and I would go exploring!

PS! we've talked before of parallel happenings in our lives, coincidences to some, but so many of them to be dismissed so lightly. And another is that I once lived close to your new home town, and visited it many weekends, and here I am now living very close to Glastonbury- a place very important to you, and the inspiration for the name of your new home!

Oh, there are just SO many connections in your new home to your heritage and soul path -- CANNOT simply be coincidental.

It's all wonderful Robyn! Found it hard to leave a comment on your last post, comment couldn't get through - just want to let you know how thrilled I am for you. For all the right reasons this place, your lovely Avalon and Katoomba is made for you!

I think you should be painting your house seaside colours, blues, dark and light, and whites so to make the link ever stronger with Cornwall and Devon.Or to go with the moors, heather and green.
Glad you are feeling so settled, it's been a long journey to here and you deserve the serenity you are now feeling.

The mountains have been calling me again, Robyn. I read this post earlier today and knew by the tingles I had that I need to visit soon. I thought about going tomorrow (Friday) but am going to see if my husband will go with me on Saturday. It's our Anniversary then, if I remember rightly one of the first things we did as a newly married couple was to drive to Katoomba, all those years ago.

Thanks for showing us your new neighborhood. It looks lovely. The houses seem so unique and individual....not all the same. It shows personality. I hope you'll be so happy there for many years.

I believe you've reached the place your soul was longing for. The path to where we want to go is never straight, but if we trust our heart, we always get there. xx C.

I truly feel you have come home.
There is no anxiety in you words, just a flow of peaceful thoughts. I was sure I had already posted here, seems my mind is slipping..!
We were out in the country here over the weekend, and I saw several little cottages like the ones you show and they made me think of you.
hugs

Robyn, we did end up going on Saturday, what a magical day it was. First tea and hot chocolates at the chocolated shop and then to Echo Point. We were in the shop when it poured. Watching the mist flowing from the valley and forming clouds was amazing, filled me with awe. It's beautiful no matter what the weather.

Love your new world of charming homes. You are bound to make yours just dandy! I was interested to read about the 'earth chakras', on my recent retreat we did some chakra work and was fascinated to learn mother earth has them too!

I'm loving your spirit here!
