I am finding joy creating a garden here at Avalon. a blank canvas so to speak. the bones of the garden were here - old trees and garden beds edged with old concrete but the plants left a lot to be desired. scraggly lavenders, out of control lamium and a dreadful plant called yucca that still keeps coming up even though we thought we had removed it all.
when we first moved in I planted three apples along the front fence - since then Joe has actually made the fence higher by building a timber fence ontop of the bricks and eventually we will put wire over the timber. He has built me a small arbour over the gate

the first days of the new year, I have spent time in nurseries. gathering plants to fill the garden around the newly planted apples.

I have mulched and fertilized and sat upon the old seat under the cherry tree with Joe - enjoying a cups of rooibos while watching the many tourists on their way to Echo Point and Katoomba Falls. Living in such a tourist area does not bother me one bit - most people stop and chat about the garden or just to say hi. It is a blessed life that I live.

I envy you the apple trees... we used to have them in my old house in England and they were gorgeous! I used to climb them when I was a child and off course had lots of apples! you sound as though you have at lat found peace at avalon!
The garden will bloom and prosper under your care, I know! Have fun!
It all sounds so lovely and I'm so happy for you. It definitely helps if you love the place where you live! In no time you'll have your garden looking fantastic and thriving.

Hi from your WildSelf sister! I am so glad you put your blog link there and I look forward to hearing about your trip. Have a wild and wonderful time!
Hi Robyn,
Good luck with that yucca plant. They are endemic in southern california and love desert climates. They reproduce via rhizomes which live underground. Just keep pulling as they pop up. Eventually they will get the message and you will have gotten all the rhizomes.
