About Me

My photo
here I am in a little cottage that evokes the energies of my ancestral lands - a cottage on the moors of Cornwall, or on the cliff tops of Ireland or Scotland. It has a hearth. I am a hedge witch {of sorts}. I wear upcycled clothes, patchouli oil and Redback boots. I am a gypsy; an eccentric and a mystic [I often live with a foot in two worlds]. I serve my guests, tea from an old silver teapot. I love Vervain, yarrow, chamomile & mint. Star watcher and Moon gazer. story cloth weaver. keeper of family dreams and wishes. good friend and creator of life. herbal tea drinker and potion maker.

Our Lady Star of the Sea

just recently, while visiting the far north coast and Mullumbimby, - we stayed in a seaside town.. and each morning I went for a walk on the beach. Opening my arms to the gift of a new day, doing a little Tai-Chi, meditating, letting the sun warm my belly and solar plexus and of course paddling in the waves as the gently broke on the shore [standing with my eyes close, like I did when I was a little girl.. waiting for the first touch of a wave.. shocking me with the cold & laughing in delight]

And I collected shells. as I do, every time i go to a beach. I keep them in a large glass jar - along with a small print of Mary.

Mother of Christ, Star of the sea
Pray for the wanderer, pray for me.

a Virgin a day

Even though I live in the desert, may I adopt this prayer as my own? Thank you in advance...

my dear friend,
i love your perfect toes being washed by the sea. lovely to see, even better to feel!
your little prayer is a bright perfect chant and your ritual of placing the star of the sea in your collection of beloved seashells,
perfect!
so many wonderful old grottoes are made with countless seashells, i am sure they shared your adoration of ocean and Lady Star of the Sea!

There's a beautiful chant to the Goddess -- "The ocean is the beginning of the world; All life comes from the sea" -- and this post reminded me of it.

I love the connection you draw from the sea to being with Mary. Rocks and shells are a part of the natural world and have a spirit, just as the water, moon, sun and stars. The idea that Mary is the Earth Mother makes this all seem so obvious. Very cool thought. Thanks for sharing this with us today.

Peace

what a beautiful thing you wrote on my blog post. I too went through broken heart and Our Sorrowful Mother understood my pain. That is what she does.

These are beautiful images...I think that the feminine spirit is more connected to the ocean...less about conquering it. I loved the prayer too.

I live by the ocean and too often I take it for granted. When I walk my Mollie tomorrow I will think of you and your beautiful post--and Our Lady of the Sea.
